If your racing with only two pedals, with one foot on each. Useing anything but the drivers view, and are shifting with Pedals in a car that dosn't really have them! Then your still a arcade gamer and not a sim racer. |

Yes,but that's only so if you have a steering wheel. It's very complicated to use manual gearbox with a manual clutch on a keyboard(at least for me) Altough surely there are guys who can race like that I prefer manual gearbox with automatic clutch cause it's a more faster way for me to do shifting and also have some fun.
PS. I would really like to own a steering wheel |

Yes of course, My message does not apply to anyone who is in a place or situation that they cannot get thier hands on the proper hardware.
Only to those racers I race against regularly on line that can go 5 or 10 sec. laps faster by manipulating an image on thier computer screen. By useing instant responce image manipulaters. Instead of striving for as much in depth realism as possible. Some don't even want FF in there way "to win". If beating the outher guy "by any means possible" is your only joy; in sim rac ing. Then you won't be around very long. On the other hand if your joy is challengeing and overcoming the physical world by the your driving skill ( as real as it can be made on a computer ) Then you'll be happy to keep racing. Even though you never come in first.
I've always given away my old wheels to help the sim racing establishment. I don't have a extra good one at this time. But you can find one on the internet "ebay?" for as little as 20$ u.s. But of course you have to be in a place that can recieve a package. And have some way to pay for it. |

well I certainly agree with you about the "winning at all costs" thing because it can be really annoying to race with such "sim racers" . But another thing that annoys me is that often they push you off the track just to get one place ahead(even if that means getting from 15th to 14th). I would do some serious ass kicking if that would happen in real life |

Well, I don't know, but it seems like it'd be real hard to double clutch and stuff in a sim. Much harder than real life. which then, you could argue, wouldn't be realistic. Plus, a lot of us can't afford to or don't want to spend the money on a pedal set with a clutch. That doesn't make us any less of a sim racer. It just makes it slightly less accurate, but you still have the physics to deal with. And to tell you the truth, for me it's easier in the driver's view because you get to "feel" what the car is doing. In a real car you actually get to feel what the car is doing but in games you have to use visual cues and that's what the driver's view does for you.
Talking about the FF getting in the way. To me, the FF actually makes it easier because once again, you get to "feel" what the car is doing.
By the way man, what's an "instant responce image manipulater"? |

I personally think it IS harder to double clutch in a sim. And the lack of a proper pedal set with a clutch really doesn't make us worse sim racers, cause the thing that makes you a sim racer is weather you race to win or you race to improve your times and win by doing that. But the thing about feeling what the car is doing is the only thing that games don't have and that's bad. But then again, games can never copy real life 100% accurately so I guess we just have to accept that and just "feel" the car by view.
Instant Response Image Manipulater??? Never heard of it, sorry... |
