Total Immersion Racing Hardcore Physics v. 1.0 [17-06-2003 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
In addition to these "Hardcore" tweaks, this patch uses all the other tweaks from the "Advanced Physics Patch, including the settings from McGonigle's "TIRFirstAid" patch, along with additional tweaks to solve the brake lockup problem, and some AI enhancements to tame their behavior a bit. These tweaks transform Total Immersion Racing from an arcade racer to something much more sim-like.

Total Immersion Racing Adv. Physics v. 2.0 [14-05-2003 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
I have released a new version of the Advanced Physics Patch for Total Immersion Racing. V2.0 features improved steering linearity for better responsiveness if you're using a driving wheel. This should also help those using other types of analog controllers as well.

Advanced Physics Patch for TIR [11-05-2003 | IS | Comments (0) ]
I was impressed with the Total Immersion Racing demo, and aside from the console menu screens, the physics model seems to have a lot of potential, so I went ahead and bought the full version.
Using all the info I could gather from others who have been modifying and tweaking TIR, I have developed an all-in-one patch for Total Immersion Racing that should do for TIR what the Advanced Physics Patch" did for SCGT.
Note that I have developed a special version of the Advanced Physics Patch specifically for the demo version as well. That will enable people who haven't purchased the full version of TIR to sample the full goodness of TIR in advance. The demo only features a one-lap race, though, and since TIR also models tyre and brake temps (it feels a lot like a Papy or MGI sim in this respect), you really need to put in a couple of laps to warm the tyres up before the physics model truly "comes alive." The demo patch will enable you to see how good the full version feels when using the Advanced Physics Patch.

Total Immersion Racing Ambient Noise Patch [26-04-2003 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
This patch will only affect tire sounds (louder from the in-cockpit view to enable you to judge grip, wheelspin, and overall traction state), as well as the PA announcer and crowd sounds. NOTE that this patch includes a Windows-style installation wizard, so you don't need to place any files in any specific folders or open up Notepad to do any text editing. Also note that this patch is compatible with BOTH the full version and the demo verion of the game -- see the readme file for details.

TIR Realism Patch Coming Soon [26-04-2003 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
Froom John Bodine: "I am currently putting together the following patches for Total Immersion Racing (TIR) -- they will include Windows-style self-installers so that you won't have to do any search-and-replace stuff, and you won't have to do any file editing in notepad... just point and click! The patches I'm working on now are: 1) Slick Grass Patch -- This will make the grass/dirt slick so that you won't slow down when you drop a tire off the track -- sand traps will remain unchanged. 2) Ambient Noise Patch -- This will include some new sound files with increased volume levels, plus tweaks to the sound.dat file to further alter how the ambient noises appear in the game. This patch will give you an announcer voice over the PA and crowd noises from the in-cockpit view, VASTLY improved tire squeal sounds (this REALLY helps the physics model come alive), and reduced volume levels for the scrape/bump noises (which makes it MUCH less annoying when rubbing fenders with the AI cars)...". Total Immersion Racing Review at IGN [03-04-2003 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
The other visual representation, and the most touted, is the button-activated display of the "mood" of the opponents you are racing against. Inverted triangles change color, growing progressively redder as they get angry with you, neutral as they don't care, or green, showing a defensive posture. I have really not witnessed much green -- just neutral or red. This is supposed to be persistent, as the game tracks just which drivers have grudges against you and which will race cleanly. More on how this affects gameplay later.

Total Immersion Racing Demo Updated [28-01-2003 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
This is an updated demo for Total Immersion Racing, offering another go at trying out this modern racing simulation by Razorworks and Empire Interactive. Apart from the inclusion of a proper Readme.txt file, it's not clear what the changes are, for as before the demo allows you to drive two different cars in Single-Lap and Time Trial modes on the Monza and Talheimring tracks.

Total Immersion Racing Review at CVG [27-12-2002 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
Demand intelligent racing, they said. The first driving game to feature computer opponents with intelligence like real racing drivers, they said. What do we say? Poppycock. Although, if you inspect the back of the box closely, you'll see that we also say "an outstanding degree of artificial intelligence," a quote lifted from a longer sentence that appeared in a news story a few issues back. They're probably not after any more quotes, but how about "a barely discernible degree of artificial intelligence."

Total Immersion Racing Review at Gamezone [18-12-2002 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
Car racing games have long been a mainstay of the gaming industry, and with so many of them out there it seems an almost impossible task to come up with something new and original. Some give you the option of building your car from the ground up, others have given you the ability to build your own tracks, and almost every other option under the sun has been offered by one game or another. So what is going to make TOTAL IMMERSION RACING stand out from the crowd?

Total Immersion Racing Review at Gamespot [04-12-2002 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
Empire Interactive's latest venture into the world of computerized automotive competition is Total Immersion Racing. The game has an interesting combination of both driving simulation features and arcade racing features that may prove disappointing for hard-core fans of either category. If you prefer your driving to be as realistic as possible, you'll undoubtedly be frustrated by Total Immersion Racing's indestructible vehicles, less-than-realistic physics, and constant bumping. If you're a fan of frantic, high-speed races, you may not appreciate the game's generally conservative pace and complex car setup routines. However, if you play Total Immersion Racing with an open mind, you should find it to be quite appealing. The game has a variety of gorgeous real life cars, race-long bumper-to-bumper action, and emotionally charged AI drivers--too many positive attributes to be ignored...
