Sega Racing Studio Closed [10-04-2008 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
Develop has a confirmation of Sega's closure of Sega Racing Studio, the UK-based development house that was formed to revive Sega's racing efforts. That revival that began and ended with the release of Sega Rally Revo, which earned decent reviews, but did not generate decent sales. It is unclear at this time what will happen to the 60-odd personnel employed at the studio. This is the latest in a surprising series of studio closures, a trend we can only hope will not continue.

SEGA Rally Review at YouGamers [01-12-2007 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
Those of us who aren't afraid to own up to spending time in an arcade in the mid-90s have fond memories of Sega Rally Championship. Born in the coin-slot halls in 1995 and eventually ported to the PC (as well as console and handheld platforms), Sega's rally racing game earned acclaim as a difficult yet entertaining racer. The game was small in scope, with just a handful of tracks and cars, but the excellent graphics and innovative take on road surfaces made up for the lack of depth.

SEGA Rally Revo Review at Trusted Reviews [04-10-2007 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
Let's get the tough stuff out of the way. Would the absence of any or all of the following in an off-road racing game instantly put you off, no matter how attractive or entertaining the game might otherwise be:
Realistic car damage; accurate vehicle handling; real-world rally competitions and stages; car setup and mid-championship maintenance; a proper in-car cockpit view; alternate routes; the ability to drift off-track for more than a few metres; the full range of licensed cars, drivers and passengers from the WRC.

Sega Rally Revo Demo Released [03-10-2007 | JZ | Comments (4) ]
The classic rally racing series hits the PC, with powerful new technology fueling its bumper-to-bumper racing. Vehicle selection affects driving strategy in Sega Rally Revo, as race course surfaces dynamically deform upon repeated contact with vehicle tires and changing weather effects.
The demo is branded with ads from the german print magazine "Auto Bild". It features one car (Volkswagen) and one track.

SEGA Rally Revo Preview at IGN [18-04-2007 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
Showing off one of the game's jungle-based tracks, roadsides were packed with lush, detailed foliage, SEGA's trademark set-piece elements - like the towering waterfall looming against a rich backdrop of distant mountains - and plenty of persistent, interactive environmental objects. For example, clip one of the track-side huts and the porch will crumble, sending wood and debris scattering across the road - a nasty surprise for anyone following your tail.
