Rallisport Challenge Editing [31-07-2003 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
It has been known a while now that RalliSport Challenge (Dice) is created using the Refractor2 Engine (same as Battle Field 1942). Not many people are aware of this and is only now that I am able to inform you and the public of initial Tools and work being released soon. For any novice or veteran of the Refractor2 Engine or whichever of the games you have this is surely one not to be missed. More information, screenshots and general edting information is posted in the Forum.

Rallisport Challenge Review at War Gamer [09-04-2003 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
The game has several options, including Single Race, Career (building up points and attempting to unlock the more sophisticated tracks and cars), Time Attack (playing against the clock), and Multiplayer. Single Race is further subdivided into different race types: Rally (point-to-point), Hill Climb, Ice Racing, and Rallycross. Each offers different tracks to compete on; the level of difficulty varies.

Rallisport Challenge Review at Fragland [17-02-2003 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
Its in the careermode that you will have to unlock the majority of realy fast cars and the most tracks. You start of as a Pro, hopefully win a few races, and with the gathered points climb up to the status of 'Expert'. Once again, after winning enough races, youll become a 'Classic' driver and unlock some pioneering Rally cars (and with that I mean, those nasty '80's machines). Eventually youll reach 'Unlimited' status, unlocking cars that are definitely not suitable for the noobie driver. All in all, there are over 30 cars and more than 41 (!) tracks spread out over 12 territories! Now thats diversity!

Rallisport Challenge Review at RadiativeNZ [29-01-2003 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
Today I take a look at another rally game, RalliSport Challenge for the PC, which falls squarely into the Arcade genre. Whilst I will specifically talk about the PC version of Rallisport in this review, the commentaries that I make can also be applied directly to the Xbox version, as there is very little difference between the two versions...

Rallisport Challenge Review at Game Over [17-01-2003 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
Developed by Digital Illusions of recent Battlefield 1942 fame, RalliSport Challenge is a Microsoft published title that made the journey from the Xbox over to the PC. It's not a pure arcade racer since there's great attention to what type of terrain you're going over as well as a few options to tweak cars and that's on top of a whole cast of licensed paraphernalia. You can't simply win by stepping on the pedal. Then again, compared to auto enthusiast titles like Papyrus' highly acclaimed Nascar and Grand Prix titles, the realism just doesn't reach the bar set by racers on the PC. Nestled in between the two genres, though, it appears Digital Illusions has implemented a fun racing title not only for rally racing fans but all racing fans. This title comes closest to rekindling the sensation I got from playing the first Need for Speed many years ago.

Rallisport Challenge Review at 3DAvenue [07-01-2003 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
The Rally style racer for the PC is quite an open genre now. Due to the apparent lacking of Codemaster's interest to produce Colin McRae Rally 3 for the PC anytime soon, a gigantic hole has opened for such companies as Microsoft GameStudio, who aren't afraid to give the newly opened market a twirl. However rather than start from scratch with a PC rally game, MS have cunningly ported their Xbox hit, Rallisport Challenge, over to the PC. Does Rallisport Challenge PC follow the ever popular trend of crappy ports? we certainly think not.

Rallisport Challenge Review at Game Faction [06-01-2003 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
Rallisport Challenge was and still is an excellent XBOX game, released March the 14th it was simply one of the best looking and enjoyable racing games there has ever been on a console. Now its finally made its way onto the PC, but does it work as well as it did for the XBOX?

Rallisport Challenge Review at Game Planet [01-01-2003 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
One of the main features of the PC version is that you can play online - against up to four other drivers. This is a definite advantage over the Xbox version, where if all your friends were too busy to come over and play with you, you would have to put up with racing the AI cars. While they are definitely a nice addition, they can be a little random...

Rallisport Challenge Review at CGV [27-12-2002 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
It's been a while since a rally game flopped on to our doormat, a situation now rectified by the release of this so-called 'Xbox exclusive.' A launch title for Microsoft's behemoth console, it was largely lost in the post-Halo hype, as well as being somewhat overshadowed by the splendid Project Gotham Racing. Nevertheless, RalliSport Challenge is a superb Xbox game, and one that has been ported to the PC with the minimum of fuss and four shiny new cars...

Rallisport Challenge Review at PC Gameworld [18-12-2002 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
Although succeeding as a purely arcade racer, those looking for a realistic simulation of the sport should look elsewhere. Traditionally, rally games have got by with simple graphics, as the emphasis is on the gameplay. Unfortunately with this game I feel the developers have tipped the scale in the other direction. The feeling is that graphics have taken precedence over gameplay...
