Another year, another SimBin racing title. Not that there is anything wrong with that, as SimBin has been responsible for a series of quality racing simulations, starting with GTR and continuing through last year's RACE 07. This year's iteration is effectively a combination of SimBin's two series, taking the fantastic RACE 07 gameplay and adding in the GT cars from games past. GTR Evolution takes an interesting approach to the standalone expansion: existing owners of RACE 07 can buy it for $20, or new players can get both games in one package for $40.

SimBin Studios AB today announced the forthcoming release of GTR Evolution. Developed by the multiple award winning Swedish studio SimBin Development Team and published by SimBin Studios AB, GTR Evolution takes GT and WTCC Extreme cars to the Green Hell of Nordschleife, the holy grail of racing. Available as a stand alone game and also as an expansion pack for SimBin’s 2007 title RACE 07, GTR Evolution is scheduled for launch in 2008.


In addition to many other tracks, players of GTR Evolution will drive the modern version of the monumental track of Nürburgring Nordschleife along with the Nürburgring GP layout. Dubbed “The Green Hell” by racing legend Jackie Stewart, the track is revered and feared as the most difficult and treacherous track ever built.


“As the first PC game developer to get exclusive access to this track for reference, SimBin has been given a solid ground to work from and we hope that we will be able to give our fans a real hell, so to speak”, said Jay Ekkel with a smile, Producer at SimBin Development Team AB.


GTR Evolution for PC comes with 22 GT car models in 3 different classes plus a selection of exclusive production cars. Further to this SimBin adds WTCC Extreme, tuned concept cars based on the FIA WTCC cars.


“With rear wheel drive, extended body-kits and over 600hp the WTCC Extreme cars will give the GT cars a run for their money, said Diego Sartori, Creative Director at SimBin Studios AB.


GTR Evolution will be available as a stand alone game including all RACE 07 content, all in all 49 unique cars in 12 classes with over 500 variations and 19 tracks in over 40 different layouts including the new and legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife. A GTR Evolution expansion pack for existing owners of RACE 07 will also be available.

- Enabled Rolling Starts. This gives the option to choose between rolling or standing start in 1 race format. Choosing 2 race format the first race will be rolling while the second will be standing.
- Fixed timing on dual core processors (flicker fix on some computers).

RACE 07™ The Official WTCC Game is a simulation that is based on the World Touring Car Championship racing circuit, one of the Federation Internationale de L’Automobile’s (FIA being Europe’s governing body for motorsports) many championships. Think of it as being roughly analogous to one of NASCAR’s different series, only not as many Winnebagos are clogging the cobblestone roads and vegan items are available at the concession stands.

From the producers of GTR and GTR2 comes what the game's designers called "... the ultimate racing sensation!" This game has no fancy titles or cleaver names; it's simply called Race 07.

Is it just me or are racing games a hot item again? October 07 and November 07 will see more racing game releases then the rest of 07 combined, which is fine with me since I consider myself a hardcore race fanatic.

A good racing simulation combines excellent gameplay with well-rounded graphics. Race '07 exceeds those expectations. It's a great all-around driving experience. From the licensed drivers, tracks, and cars to the graphics—there is quite a bit of value in this game for both casual and hardcore gamers.

In just a few short years, Swedish developer SimBin has graduated from startup to an established developer of PC auto racing simulations. With knowledgeable (and often finicky) fans and a mutable target platform, the PC simulation market is a tough one to crack. Titles such as GTR, GT Legends and GTR 2 are proof that SimBin are now the go-to developer for car racing simulations. Lending credence to SimBin's reputation, the FIA's World Touring Car Championship partnered with the developer on the 2006 release of RACE: Official WTCC Game. One year (and one expansion pack) later, the sequel - RACE 07 - is available at retail and through Valve's Steam distribution service.

RACE2PLAY TURNS 1000!

Oct. 20, 2007 - A sim racing milestone was passed today with the running of the 1000th event organized by Race2Play sanctioned by the National Auto Sport Association. The only online auto racing organization recognized by a real-world motorsport body, Race2Play delivered on the same expectation of a professional-caliber experience in sim racing with all 1000 events being conducted by live Stewards to unprecedented results: On average, more than 86% of all race participants crossed the finish lines, with less than 4% going out due to car-on-car contact.

In the 10 months and 1000 events since Race2Play's launch, members have logged more than 445,000 race laps totaling more than 1.1 million miles. The 16,000 race entries represent amateur, semi-professional and professional drivers alike from 53 different countries.

Events are scheduled during all hours for U.S. and European time zones. Race2Play currently supports the four major simulations on the market today: GTR2, rFactor, RACE '07 and GT Legends, featuring more than 130 car types and 210 track layouts covering all forms of auto racing. No other online auto racing organization presents both the scope of choice and quality of competition as does Race2Play, enabling racers to run their whole career under one body with the tracking of every stat, lap time, post race report and more.

With the 1000th race in the books, Race2Play has opened its web application and service to sim racing leagues around the globe with the introduction of Independent Chapters. A group may start an Independent Chapter at Race2Play, run its own races, its own schedules, its own rules under its own authority, and place its organization in the greater historical record that forms the backbone of the world's largest online auto racing service. RACE 07 is the sequel to the 2006 title RACE - The Official WTCC Game. For further details on the prequel read the review from our website. Race 07 remains a racing simulator officially licensed by the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC). The game is again developed by SimBin Studios which are already known for GTR2 (read the review here). In a gaming industry where racing-simulators are rare as an exotic car, this little Swedish company is one of the few to create nowadays such games. And they do it really well following the legacy left by Papyrus or Geoff Crammond.

Simbin's last effort, RACE, left me feeling a little underwhelmed. After the heady heights of GTR 2, the lesser-powered vehicles and lack of graphical polish felt like a bit of a step back for the developers.

But true to the World Touring Car Championship series which it emulates, SimBin are back with this year's version. Complete with the new drivers and tracks featured in this year's WTCC, there's also a whole garage of extra content bolted on.

SimBin has been building on top of the excellent ISI simulation engine for years, and Race 07 will continue that practice. There are, of course, pros and cons to this depending on your satisfaction with the ISI engine. For example, I greatly enjoy the ISI engine starting on or about the second lap of any given race.
