EA tried hard, but this game is quite unrealistic
Well I love Nascar, and I love Rusty Wallace. I have Nascar Heat 2002 for XBOX and it's great. I bought Thunder 2004 on the spur of the moment idea and that was a HUGE MISTAKE!!! I definately should have RENTED it first. The career mode is just awesome and I really like the idea behind it. However I think money needs to be more an aspect... who says that thousands of dollars aren't put into tires and gas at the races? Well, I suppose Thunder 2004 says that... oh well. Also the AI traffic IS ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!! And I can NOT stress that enough. At first I thought it was really awesome, but you soon find out that they do things far from realistic. Also the handling of the cars, compared to HEAT anyway, is far from realistic. You have to actually TRY to spin out. And at Daytona and Talledega even if you go on the apron you don't spin out... this is WITHOUT driver assistance. Also if you are using the lame "share draft" feature, u can NOT bump draft because it stops you before you hit the car infront of you. Now, seriously, that is EXTREMELY cheezy. And, get this... you finally work reallllllllllllly really realllllly and i mean reallly hard on a long race and finally win in your career mode. It gives you the option to do some victory donuts. DONT DO IT! Because before you know it you will blow your engine and it will give you a DNF for the race and have you finish 43rd even though you won the friggin thing. This just recently happened to me and I broke one of my other games because it made me so mad. I have tried 6 times on the same race and can't win again. Way to %$#& things up on whoever programmed that part of the game. This game could be reallly really awesome, don't get me wrong... but... the fact is, it needs a lot of work. Hopefully Thunder '06 will be the great game that this one is trying to be.

Overall good game
EA Sports has done it again. First they take Madden to the top of the football world, now they have NASCAR Thunder at the top of the racing world. And maybe on top of all sports games period. To start, this game has amazingly flush graphics, although on the PS2 version they tend to chop a bit; but not too bad. The online mode for the PS2 was a great plus except it's only 2 human players and the rest all computer, if EA could develop that so that there could be quite a few more human players, then the online mode would be 5 stars. If you don't have online (being that's normally all I play) EA hasn't forgotten about you, there are quite a few race modes that are all highly addicting. The quick race mode seems to be the favorite when racing with 2-4 players at your own crib, you know the drill, pick a driver, pick a track, and go. But the other two racing modes of Season and Career are so different that they are light years apart.First, Season mode is dull and is why I only give this game 4 stars. It's too easy even on Legend difficulty. But Career mode is my favorite, it's very challenging even on the Rookie difficulty. EA also added the "Grudges and Alliances" feature that really brings out the best in the game. Although some faults (ex. If you barely even nudge someone or they hit you while you're spinning out, the Rival meter skyrockets and it takes forever to get back to normal even.) The total package is there though, I would recomend this game even to gamers who aren't hard core racing fans like me.
