F1 Challenge 1999-2002 Facts : | ||

CREW are a mod team of considerable skill, they are undoubtedly one of the most talented mod teams out there, and are further aided by their individual experience and originality. Despite being fairly new to the modding scene as a team, they have made the stand out mod Mosler Challenge, as well as incorporating the car into GTR 2002 and X-Spec, the Nissan R390GT1 for GTR 2002, and tones of skins including an almost complete Spa 24 Hour mod! And now, Slayer 10, Vince Moyet, Rich Ward, and TMan are at it again, but this time it’s going to be better than ever. They are creating a group of mods that they hope will lead gamers racing towards the next generation of sims. They have put a lot of blood, sweat and dedication into their mods, and soon we will be able to see the results for ourselves. First up will be Enjoy Lotus. Let’s go right from the start, and explain that name! Many of you RSC dwellers will know this mod as Lotus Challenge. That is its WIP name, but since this mods conception, it has grown beyond just Lotus. The Lotus Exige is widely known as one of the most enjoyable and rewarding cars to thrash around. The ‘Top Gear’ journalists where not the only ones to be stunned by the Exige, despite it not having the raw speed of a Pagani Zonda or a Ferrari Enzo. So even in its early days this mod was always going to be an ultra fun single car mod. But CREW weren’t quite happy with just that, they wanted more. But how do you improve a mod based on one of the most fun cars in the world? Easy. You make a mod based on two of the most fun cars in the world!!! Enter, the Pininfarina Enjoy! Ah, now it all makes sense! Lotus Exige, Pininfarina Enjoy, clever, eh? Well, now that we have the basics sorted out, let me explain how this is all going to work: The Lotus Exige and Pininfarina Enjoy will not race together in the original mod (but if you really want to, this can be edited fairly easily). They will race in separate championships, of which there will be 3: • 1st, the ‘Autobytel Championship’. This is a true to life championship which was run as a support race to the British TOCA Touring Car series (and two rounds of the FIA Sportscar championship) in 2000 and 2001. There will be cars from both seasons, and the tracks from the 2001 Championship. The 2001 series raced on the following circuits: • Thruxton • Spa Francorchamps • Silverstone International (night race) • Mondello Park (to be replaced in the mod with Rockingham) • Donnington Park International • Knockhill • Snetterton (night race) • Croft • Oulton Park (Island) • Silverstone International • Nurburgring • Brands Hatch Indy • The second championship will be (provisionally) called the ‘Revival Championship’. This will also be for the Lotus Exige, but this time it is a fantasy series running a mixture of real, fantasy, and semi-fantasy cars. The real cars will be from the 2003/2004 British GT Championships, as well as British Club Racing. There will also be some completely fantasy liveries, as well as some liveries from old Lotus Formula One cars (semi-fantasy as I called it). The track list for this series was not finalized at time of publishing, but is likely to include famous and historic international tracks like the Nordshleife, Le Mans, Canberra, etc. • The 3rd and final championship is going to be entirely fictional, and based on the Pininfarina Enjoy (apparently based on the Lotus Elise chassis). I have been told that this car is incredibly fun to drive, and should bring a smile to any drivers face. Another interesting point to note about the Pininfarina is that it comes in two versions (thankfully, both of which will be modeled in game), with a closed wheel version and a ‘wilder’ open wheel version that will have more power, and will hopefully provide that iconic Italian power sliding I know you are all dreaming of, while the closed wheel version should give us a welcome injection of that classic British wheel banging action we all know and love. Unfortunately, as with any mod group, CREW are being very cagey about their release date. I wasn’t able to get any kind of an accurate prediction, but let’s just say that you can expect it pretty soon! They have put a lot of effort into this mod, and just want to get it out as soon as it is finished! Well, I hope this article has boosted your awareness of not only the highly promising Enjoy Lotus mod, but also CREW themselves. I will be bringing you more information on their other mods in the not to distant future. I hope you are all as excited as I am about this upcoming mod, and if I have done a decent job of writing this article, you should be! Let’s just hope CREW lives up to our expectations. If they do then we are all going to be in for a lot of fun over the next few months. Special thanks to Vince Moyet for all the information used in this article! So, enjoy the screenshots above, check out CREW’s website (https://crew.speedgeezers.com/) for more information, and happy racing! PS. RichWard from CREW posted this at RSC Forums which is very exciting: "Hope that gives people a taster of what's to come. Some things have evolved further since Scott was given that info. We have made the Enjoy cup a real custom affair, with the help of ORSPG and their car manager. This will give you the chance to choose from many different colour schemes, a wide choice of wheel styles and a few other choices too. The ai has been improved a great deal too. Tracks are in the process of being retextured to give a more realistic feel to the races" |
