F1 Turbo Mod Features

I was able to have a great interview with Bret Galloway (known as Cuchulain in RSC) where we talked about the upcoming turbo mod for F1C. Well, when I say talked, I mean I demanded questions and he humoured me by replying!

So Bret, what are you objectives for this mod? Is it aimed at being a fun and accessible game or a full on simulation?

Without a doubt, the primary aim is to produce a realistic simulation in homage to the F1 cars of the turbo era. That said, we do not have the resources to accomplish as much as we would like in all areas, so obviously there are compromises. Still we feel the results will be pleasing and respectable enough. Aside from realism, we just want users to have fun and enjoy the mod.

The development has taken a very long time, and the community members who have been following your mod have little idea of what is taking so long. Maybe you could give us a little background information and tell us about some of the extra features you are going to be included in this highly anticipated mod?

The F1C version started out as a simple conversion with some analogue gauges. Basically like the beta conversion as first released. Had it continued this way, it probably would have been finished in March, but additions and changes began to creep into the process which expanded and complicated it. These include making the mod a standalone (as opposed to a season add-on), new physics, new cars, new sounds, etc. So, the mod has now become more of an expansion than a conversion. The team is very small and thus one of the main reasons for the long time to complete.

Some Mod Highlights:
Reorganized file structure. No more loose files.
All cockpits should have working analogue gauges.
 Backfires
The pit crews will have team-specific liveries and garage walls.
 Cars no longer on spinners.
There will be new menu screen backgrounds and more garage setup options.
New and/or modified sounds, plus audio driver names.
 Continued improvements to the physics
 Improved replay image quality.
 At least 3 seasons: 1982-1985 (~19 cars), 1986 (~17 cars) ,1987-88 (~19 cars)
 New cars: most likely these will be the 1982 Renault, 1983 Brabham, 1984 Williams, 1984 & 1986 Ligiers, 1985 & 1987 Osellas, 1985 RAM, 1986-88 AGS, 1986-87 Minardis, 1985 & 1988 Tyrrells.

And now for the dreaded question: Do you have a release date?

I wish I could say with some certainty. In a best-case scenario, it might be ready for Christmas. If not, probably not long after that. I will have finished all of my part by mid-October. It then remains for one disciple to put everything together, make sure it works properly, and then package it for uploading. So, the good news is that it is definitely in the final stages.

I hope IDT will finish this mod soon. The beta version is good, but has some problems with the fuel tank range and fuel consumption, so i fixed that. The souds are very good, and with that psyhics update available the cars have realistic laptimes. Well done!!!
