Custom Number Fonts Tutorial

A very simple and quik way to create your own custom number fonts for Dirt Track Racing 2. I use Photoshop 7 because the .PSD extention is readable in almost all paint programs.

STEP 1

Open a new document 256 pixels by 256 pixels and/or set your guides at 60pixels/127/192pixels.

Or open a font.tga from the DTR2 car font folder, this will be your guide.

STEP 2

Create or choose the font you want to use and type the numbers. I'll use the excelerate font. Place/work within the guides or position it over the font.tga from the sim.

STEP 3

If you used the font for the guide just remove the layer leaving yours to work with. Whats left is whatever your imagination wants to do. Use symbols, styles (Photoshop 7), or plug-ins like KPT Effects, Eyecandy 4000 etc... Some examples:

Keep in mind that since the final output will be saved as a 32bit .tga file, you may lose some quality if you went crazy with the effects.

STEP 4

Saving. Create a folder in "C:......RatbagDirt Track Racing 2datacar fonts" and as [font.tga] 32bit .tga format.

STEP 5

Now edit the skin .str skin folder that you want the font to show up in. Change the number font line to whatever you named the font folder as. I named my font folder ozz and thats the name I used in that line.

As for DTR, DTR Sprint Cars and Leadfoot, you would follow the same steps but save the .tga as a 24bit .tga.
