Right firstly, the game basically feels like it is playing on rails when u use the standard setup because u have things like steeering help set way up around 100% so this basically means when u start to go into a corner the computer is taking over some of the steering. Also if u have pedals set too responsive, the slightist touch and it, well spins. Here is what I have found to be the best setup so far:
If u want to stop the car locking its wheels up all the time and spinning as soon as u touch the accelerator and the feeling that your not driving it, the computer is than read this. It is set up for my microsoft forcefeedback but it should be about right for all wheels (the bigger the turning radius the less u need for steering help and the more room u have on the pedals the more % u want adding on up to the maximum of 100% of course).
Right Ive had a mess about and heres the best setting for a microsoft forcefeedback steering wheel.
(You will find this in the control options in the game).
Low Sensativity Zone = 20% (for joysticks 70% for steering wheels)
Steering Help = 20% (30% if its not turning enough)
Reduce Car With Speed = 30% (the more % u add the less twitchy it is braking into a corner at high speeds or turning at high speeds).
MAX WHEEL LOCK = 20 Degrees!!!
I noticed when u watch the CPU drivers they could turn there wheel more than me, now if u crank this up from the default to 20 degrees then it will turn a lot further. To get much better response set your wheel lock to 20 degrees in main game. U can now shave a lot more off lap times.
IMPORTANT TO STOP WHEELS LOCKING UP ALL THE TIME!
Low Sensativity Zone ACCELERATION = 90%
Low Sensativity Zone BRAKING = 90%
Force Feedback Scaling = 100%
In driver aids Disable throttle and steering help.
Now the game is a LOT more responsive.
If u are using a steering wheel then please check the CONTROL DRIVEN CALIBRATION in the control options in the game.
MAKE SURE U RECALIBRATE in the game after u have done this a it will now ask for two new commands; one for full accelerator and then no accelerator and the other for the brake. This makes the car seem to drive more reliable now.
If u are having problems setting your paddles up for the game then make sure u download the correct steering wheel file from the grand prix cd (ie copying thrustmaster_wheel.con from the cdrom d:extrascontrol sets to your microprosegpsaves file and then going into the game selecting control settings and loading that file).
One way to sort the microsoft ff wheel is to copy the relevant file across then create a new profile with the software what came with your game and set the right trigger to space and the left one to shift. Then when u go into the game options for controls choose space for change up and shift for change down.
ADDITIONAL!
I have noticed since I first posted the fix on Thursday weird things happening with the pause in the race. I have since found that it is because u have assigned the right paddle to space. So now instead change that to X!!! Then go into the game and choose control setup and KEYBOARD. NOW CHANGE THE CONTROLS FOR:
acelerate=a
brake=z
left=,
right=.
change up=X!!!!
change down=CTRL.
Then go into the wheel setup and now instead of it saying space and shift is available it will be X and shift. So use X as change up and Shift as change down.
BUT DO MAKE SURE FORCEFEEDBACK SCALING IS SET TO 100%.
If u have had any problems with forcefeedback then make sure your device setup in device controllers (desktop) is using ID 1 and also in your Forcefeedback program tick the X & Y settings as well.
