Simple Guide to Creating Stand Alone SCGT Cars

by Jmann https://www.racecarsim.com

Before you start: Many SCGT car authors do not allow you to change or re-distribute their work, so unless you are making a stand alone for personal use, use a car that allows free modification and distribution.

  1. Create a folder, and copy a car ".mas" file into it. Then create a sub folder in it like newcar/files and copy the carpic.bmp and the .VEH file into it.

  2. Using Maspruce unpack the .mas files into the same folder.

  3. Using a paint program paint the .BMPs to your liking, re-paint..change #'s etc and save.

  4. Renaming; Open Windows Explorer and highlight your folder, I click "view" and "list"
so I see all my files easily. Just right click "rename". You need to rename all the .BMPs
and .VRLs but don't change the number of letters in the file, I'll usually change just one number or letter in each file.., something easy to remember when you go to edit the .VRLs.
Use SCGTFN a little program from Mikas site as a guide for renaming.

When renaming the files save then in CAPS, it may not always be necessary, but if your car doesn't work when you're done you can eliminate that being the problem.

  5. Using a Hex Editor (I have a free one at my site https://www.racecarsim.com/frhed.zip)
Open each .VRL file, on right hand column scroll all the way down to the bottom, you'll see some of the files you need to rename there. Just click the letter or number you need to change with the mouse, then type the new letter or number, DO NOT backspace or delete it, just type over it! Click save.
Not all the .VRLs need to be changed but check every one.

  6. In your folder you need to open your .PCK file created by Maspruce with notepad, change all those file names as well. Don't change the number at the top.

  7. Now start Maspruce and click the button that says "Create MAS from PCK-file" click your .PCK file and click execute, a box will pop up and you'll see the .mas file (the original .mas file) you "havn't" renamed yet, click it and click "save"
it will ask you to overite it click "yes".

  8. Now copy your new .mas file into your /files folder and rename it and the other files according to the SCGTFN Guide. Copy the new files to their proper SCGT folders and test your new car!

  9. If everything works ok zip em up with a new read-me crediting yourself and the original author.
