The first rally for a works SEAT was in 1972 where it lined up a SEAT 124-1600 (a licensed version of the Fiat 124).
In October 1972 Ca�ellas driving a Group 2 SEAT 124-1600 TC won for the first time at the European Championship's Rally.
Most engines used in the works cars were also leased from the Fiat, drawing on Fiat's vast technical knowledge in this field.
