Hi all...I just ran some TIR...and is kinda a disappoinment.
Dont get me wrong ,it looks sweet, but compared to N2002,Thunder2003,Viper...exc. I think its lacking speed and a bit arcadish in the physics dept.
Just my opinion Cam

I never expected it to be "hard core" sim, ever since I saw the movie from E3. It's a fun game.

the physics sux
how can you have a racing game without crashs?
its like having a first person shooter with bullets that dont do anything
not fun to drive at all
outdated should have been released 4 years ago or more |

i can drive but its not the same if theres no damage modelling or crashs
the ai seem okay though when there tying to ovetake and you block them they dont ram straight into you unlike most games but that doesnt make it a good game |

The cars stink but the tracks are better than most ive seen in the past?To tell you the truth the tracks are so nice it looks like they put the cars in the wrong game

I can tell Snoop has alot of love for TIR......lol! Even though his first statement is a bit Harsh...I tend to agree with him in alot of ways. Cars should be able to get damaged, speed and acceleration, are slow, and the physics are poor...you would be lucky to squak the tires on take off(Droppin the clutch on max RPM's...only time my car lost traction is on the dirt or grass, for which it just went straight in to the corner at high speed...There is No medium! I feel that sims like this are rush job's to get on store shelf's and waiting endlessly for 20 patches.

It's a giant leap forward from past Empire offerings, but it still sucks. Huge controller dead space in steering combined with hair trigger steering response make it nearly undriveable. Graphics are way too grainy. Looks the same at 800x600 as it does at 1600x1200. Smells like a console port. |

How hard would it be to port over high res versions of the cars to f12002? The only reason I would buy TIR is if they can be converted.

okay, i've not played the game, so I can't comment there... but what is this about good graphics???
From looking at all the screen shots people have put up from this game I'd say they look really bad. Just look at the PICTURE OF THE WEEK forum. Compare the screens from TIR to the F12002 MOD (of the Porchse). Now the F1 2002 MOD is the way I was hoping cars in TIR would look, but instead the look like okay addons for SCGT (and how old is that sim now?).
I also don't get a race game that is "just for fun". I mean, that is why I play the hard core sims. The fun comes in getting as close to reality as my $49.99 for the game could possibly come. And who was it that gave us the great analogy about the race game without damage being like a shooter in which bullets don't have an effect? WONDERFULLY TRUE!!!!! Racing is about being right on the edge - and if you lose that edge their are consequences that could effect the rest of the race. Not having any consequences makes the edge seem a bit like a fluffy pillow.
I can see why the Wests were not happy with the way Empire wanted to take this game, and I certainly will not spend any of my money on this -- I would never want to encourage other game makers into making such a game, or into thinking that this type of kiddy console racer is what people really want.
a bit harsh, but wow am I sick of games aimed at the average user -- when the average user seems to be 12 yo with an attention span of 4 minutes and gets frustrated with anything that they can't win at after turning it on for the first time ever.
JMHO.

Guys just a few observations
Handling:
I think maybe Empire were trying to appeal to a wider market when honing the physics. You guys, the sim-heads are fewer than the average gamer. I'm not saying you should not be catered for - it's just a fact. However, I don't think the handling is 'bad' as such - it's a middle ground I suppose, not exactly pure arcade ala Need 4 Speed series and not F12002.
It's the type of game you can come home from the pub too, not being pure arcade in nature it will still offer a challenge at those times when you can't play a pure sim
Graphics:
Simply put, the game looks much better when moving! It might not be the dogs-danglies, but static screen shots don't really do it justice. Nor no they with any other racing game. You should also consider how many car models can be on the track at a single time, all with in cockpit views as well. You might be comparing to a game that has only a few body types etc etc... this of course reduces texture memory. You can't have everything.
Crashes:
It's a sad fact - if one licenced manufacturer says 'no car damage' then that's the way the game has to be. You can't have just a few cars being damaged can you. I'm sure racing game developers would love to include damage. Some, mostly single licence games get away with it. While most muli-licence don't. And yes, I know there are gonna be exeptions.
Once more thing... what you guys recon to the sound? I might be asking for a special reason There is quite a variation in engine tones (16 engine types or so) considering memory limitations of X-box and PS2.
Anyway, that's all just my POV, everyone has there own opinions I'm sure |
