I have now been driven IndyCar Series for over a week and I must say that I´m impressed. I consider this simulator to be the best one yet. I am no real expert but I´ve been driving simulator games since good old Grand Prix 2. I don´t know how good it´s simulates a real IndyCar (I´ve never been near a real one) but it "feels" real. The sense of speed and the intense and close racing is incredible and I think the graphics is really good. And it´s fast. I can crank it up to 1152x864 32-bit and it´s runs like hell! Ok, Nascar Season 2003 has cooler sunligt-effects and nicer shadows and a better looking cockpit but the sensation of speed are not that exiting. The tracks in IndyCar Series are the best one I´ve seen, the elevation and the bumps are very well done. Take a drive at Texas and you´ll see what I mean. I almost have to take a shower after a 20-lap race at Texas. Grand Prix 4 has an awesome sense of speed and it looks beautiful but the racing are not as close and thrilling as in IndyCar Series.

The bad thing about this game is the lack of mirrors, but I can live with that. The "look behind button" and the help from the pit-crew is enough for me. But I think they could have a mirror option even if it would kill fps. It is a shame about the lack of multiplayer options in these days and I think it would be fun to paint your own car like in Nascar 2003 Season. And the cockpit-view sucks, I use the "nose-view" and it does it to me.

I hope this game will be a hit after all, it deserves to be a hit and I think Brain In A Jar has done a great job with this game. A patch would be nice but if you´re looking for exciting, and heart-pounding racing this is the one to get.
Sorry for bad english.
P4 2000 MHZ 512 MB RAM, NVIDIA 64 MB.
...still there, still there...

And my prayers goes to Kenny Bräck after the horrific crasch at Texas. Very Happy

Uhh, an IndyCar goes about 60mph faster than a Nascar, what do you expect? Nascar hits 200mph if lucky on some tracks, Indy can hit 250mph. Who cares about the speed, we want close racing. Join a NR2003 league, you will then understand what the phrase "side by side racing" means.

IndyCar isn't a realistic simulation, arcade is the word you are looking for; just like Nascar Thunder 2004. Comparing this game as a simulation is not going to work.

I agree nascar racing 2003 is better i found even Indycar racing 2 better with a Irl mod this game sucks. Crying or Very sad
I mean i cant setup my wheel good for the game i dont like force feedback but you cannot enable it.
And the driving behaviour of these cars are not realistic i got oversteer and oversteer.
when i go in a turn with nascar racing you feel the pressure on your wheel no mather how far your wheel turnd is.
But with indycar series you have to touch the wheel a little bit because if you to much the wheel feels wheeee.
I hope tha a patch come out to fix these errors if they can fix this'this can be a great game.
But for now the game isn't so good as a tought it be Evil or Very Mad Crying or Very sad .

I'll recommend you to buy Indycar Racing II to try out. You can find it on Ebay since it isn't in store anymore.

I always find it very hard to tell if something would be realistic or not. It's also very relative; what do you want in it? Gran Turismo is considered ultra-realistic to some, but you could say it isnt because it doesnt have fuel usage and a damage model in it.
also, how realistic are most driving games when you cant turn a wheel 360 degrees?
Having said that, the papyrus games achieve a high level of realism and hard to match.
