Richard Burns Rally FAQ

How is Richard Burns involved in the game?

Richard Burns and Robert Reid are an intrinsic element of the game and have been involved since the early stages of development. Their input has informed key areas of rally simulation, from stage design to car handling. This active working relationship between developer and driver has pushed the standard of simulation to new levels and produced a compelling synergy between real life rallying and in game simulation.

Within the game itself, Richard and Robert feature as follows:

At the Forest Rally School
The North Wales based Rally school where Richard learnt his craft and taught for a number of years has been recreated in Richard Burns Rally. Richard teaches the player the essential skills needed to begin a Rally career.

As a rally mentor
Richard gives essential advice to the player throughout his in-game career - on stage conditions, player's performance and rallying tips.

In Challenge Mode
Rally directly against Richard's performance in a number of stages - see below for more details.

Pace Notes
Robert Reid has authored and voiced all the pace notes, giving the most realistic aid for the player.

How many different gameplay modes?

The essence of Richard Burns Rally is the most realistic simulation of the career of a professional world rally driver. The player's ultimate aim is to successfully manage his career for the duration of an entire rally - honing his skills as the rally progresses to gain valuable seconds over his rivals. Richard Burns Rally is not entirely about speed - a crash can cost you minutes or even an entire rally. Intelligent tactics are required for success, knowing when to drive aggressively and managing risks are the key to victory.

This is reflected in the following gameplay modes:

Forest Rally School
Learn the skills necessary to begin your rally career directly from Richard Burns. Using real life stages from this North Wales based school; Richard will bring the player to the necessary competitive standard. On completion of his tuition the player must complete a certification test before he may begin his international career.

Quick Rally
A pick up and play mode, allowing the player instant access to any of the unlocked cars & stages without committing to an entire rally season.
This mode also allows you to compete against yourself, rallying against the pace car recorded from the best of your past performances.

Rally Season
The player undertakes an assault on an entire rally season, beginning with Rally USA and culminating with Japan's Rally Hakkaido. There are three difficulty levels for the player to choose from, enabling players of all experience levels to compete. This is an accurate recreation of a driver's career - a commitment to winning a championship requires foresight and intelligence alongside speed and handling ability.

Richard Burns Challenge Mode
In this mode the player competes directly against the Richard Burns and his co driver Robert Reid on a selection of stages. Richard's performance on any given stage is recorded in a 206 pace car, which the player must try to beat.
