Here's a wierd, totally frustrating, and unique problem for you guys. The issue is delayed sound, or a lag in sound relative to visual events on screen in F1C 99-02. This problem has been frustrating me for over 2 months - and so far I havent come across anything like it in any forum.
The lag means that gear change sounds and sound of engine revs are heard a second or so AFTER they actually happen. In other words you can see the gear numeric change on the steering display, and the gear DOES change, but the sound comes after a delay of around one second. When this happens it becomes impossible to drive accurately, especially during corner entry.
The lag effect shows up randomly - so sometimes it's there and sometimes the game plays perfectly. I have noticed that whenever lag does occur, it does so after the game has been running for 15-30 mins. If you exit to system and restart the game - its back to normal - for another 15 mins - after which LAG IS BACK!
This doesnt happen in the other games I have (CMR3, GP4). I have experimented with many driver versions and different display cards (details below), but have got NOWHERE so far.
Any suggestions?
Machine spec:
- OS: WinXP Pro build 2600
- Athlon 1.7Ghz processor, 768 Mb DDR ram
- Asus A7N266VM motherboard with onboard sound.
- nForce drivers 2.45 (includes nForce Audio Driver 3.48 WHQL). Older versions also tried.
- GeForce Ti4800 SE 128Mb (have also tried a GeForce MX440)
- nVidia 52.16 display driver (have tried older detonators as well)
- Directx 9.0[/u] |

Try setting the Hardware sound acceleration level down one from max (in the DirectX properties page).

I see you show onboard sound...is it an AC-97?
If so dump the N-force drivers and put the originals on...if not I would check your sound config in the F1-C or whatever mod you may be using to see if there is an adjustment possible there.
Ain't tech fun?

Well, since I dont know what an AC-97 is , I assume it is not that.
The original drivers that came on CD with the ASUS motherboard were nForce drivers. I have simply updated them to the recent version(s).
Sound config in F1C - have fiddled with this as far as possible. Unless I am missing something, the only configurable parameters here are "No. of sound effects" and "Speech Content". The first i have tried varying from 8 (minimum possible) to 14. The second I have tried at 0 to Medium.
Lag happens in all cases.
You bet tech is fun. Mostly! |
