With a 100% run on yes to MP from the previous thread the question is, do we include just alternate mode, ghost car simultaneous, full contact simultaneous (which imo is unrealistic but hey) or and probably the one most may vote for, all 3. Please vote on your most favourable style of play so we can get a general gist of what's most liked.
Cheers again
Oops spelling mistake above...meant to be style and its all gone wrong

Hey Mike,
It might help if you give some explaination of what "Alternate Mode", "Ghost Mode" and "Full Contact Mode" mean in terms of sim-racing.

Well I'm still mixed in thought about doing an alternate start mode. This would either be incorporating a 20-30 second gap between alternate players, as in rallying irl, or a take it in turns approach like we currently get on console. Though i believe the previous would be more appropriate.
Ghost mode would mean all drive at same time but you would see the other drivers as ghost cars only which does push players alot harder. We currently have this mode on Xbox CMR04 on split screen, obviously this wouldnt be the case for LAN/net games.
Full contact is the same as Ghost mode but incorporate collision and simultaneous racing for players on the track. This in my opinion would cause havoc on netcode plus be difficult on a rally track which is designed specifically for one car, and unrealistic in terms of Rally.
I personally think the 2nd suggestion is more fun for a quick game, but the first more suited to championships and leagues. Potential hotlap comp methinks.
All this info now can get us planning for another game in the future. It will also be fed back to the game designers.

Thanks Miker,
I think that will let people vote more honestly.

I think that an alternate mode would be best...
but why not a mode, where cars are solid but players are starting woth 30 second gaps between them... this would be great!!
and other players which would join the game after the stage would start, shoul be able to see the gaps on splits on the stage... this would be just great ..
this is what I think.. re-making rally rules on a computer ... with using multiplayer... this would be the best mode ... but you would have to make something like regroups... changing places in the starting order... this should be done, because the fastest guys should run first.. ..
and please, make a rally with more than one leg.. lets say 2 legs , 3 or 4 stages per leg.. this would be nice, because rallies would be longer and harder in multiplayer
this is what I think
cheers..
and could you say when CMR04 could be done for PC (a release date ?)?

Hi there,
I just wanna say first it's great you are asking for wide player input on this stuff...
And on the MP mode i think that you shouldn't go to wild with it, i mean, there was great MP in Colin 2, Ghost mode, Arcade, 8 pl. i see only few things wrong with it:
1. Lag, there was considerable lag even in LAN racing, but it wasn't too big problem...
2. No replay saving, like in Rally Masters, you save your replay and post it, it can be a proof of stage time or skill or ... it just adds fun to the game... RM replays are about 10kb big...
3. Leaderboard was ok, but i think rally needs something more permanent with more statistics for lets say holding a tournament or a LAN event, dedicated server maybe, something that would make it competitive in the long run, CMR2 is still played because of it's MP and i know a lot of tournaments were held for it... So that aspect of the game hold it's value even after so many years...
And last few things you might consider:
1. not MP, but worth mentioning... There was really great thing in CMR2, camera, you could chose height, length, sway... That's greatest camera control in any racing game so far, and noone had any complaint about it, everyone ad it the way they wanted, in CMR3 there was no external far view and it made some people crazy, and the sway was to much sometimes...
2. Ability to choose any car for championship was also great in CMR2 it made it so much more fun, to finish it few more times wit differernt cars...
3. As you said Hotlap would be great, lets say on special "shake down" stages, with replay saving etc...
Thats what i can think of now, so there you go...
bye. |

One option I'd like to see if possible is being able to save an on-line or Lan season game. It's great fun to pick up a rivalry where you left off. We do this with Grand Prix 3 so I know it's possible, of course in the case of GP3 it is Lan only.

Why not have the Multiplayer like the SP???
You see your current position at all times by a visible list in the corner of the screen which shows everyones split times at each section of each leg. You are all racing at the same time but no other car/ghost car is visible on the track.
All you see is the list and for example after the second of five time splits of the leg you see you have dropped to 2 secs behind player 2 you push harder in that section and then see at the next split time point you have gained back the lead.
Just like in SP you are pushing yourself or relaxing a bit by constantly knowing throughout the race where you are during each leg/split time section for each rally. And obviously for coding you only see the one car..yours!!! BUT the competitiveness remains! |
