Hello,

This is probably my first post. I love this site by the way.

My specs. are: Intel D845BG motherboard (new bios & driver), Intel 1.6 GHz chip, 512 MB DDRAM, Radon 9700 pro (driver is a few months old - will try new one tonight), Sound Blaster Audigy Gamer, Windows 98se (I should be running XP - which may be the cause of my problems, although all other games seem to run fine).

I've been having problems with TIR since it came out of the box. I did have it running once (using Direct x 8.1b), (I've had to reformat since then and I am now using Direct x 9.0), but now the game crashes to the desktop every time I make the final click to either "practice, qualify, or race." and actually start driving the car.

I've downloaded the TIR patch which is supposed to bypass the request for Direct x 8.1b. It does pass it this request, and now the game runs through the opening credits, and the menu screens are functional. (using Direct x 9.0), but it all crashes to a halt at the final step. "Race".

I've tried Direct x 8.1b, and Direct x 9. Both had the same result, crash to the desktop after the choice to "race" is clicked.

I've tried resolutions of 800x600, and 1280x1024. Both crashed to the desktop. I will try all other resolutions tonight, (my desk-top is set at 800x600).

I tried a new graphics card driver for the game, but that was a few months ago. A new driver is now available for the Radon 9700. I have not tried it yet, but will do so tonight - which will probably solve this issue. I hope.

This is probably a Direct X, Video card driver, Display resolution, bug that exists in the game, but I can't find a cure.

I've probably answered my own question - get the new driver for the Radon 9700 pro, or try other screen resolutions, but I'd like some more advise.

Any suggestions?

Thank you all very much.
Keep up the great work.

I tried the newest Catalyst Driver for the Radon 9700 last night. It did not help my problem.

I have now noticed that when TIR kicks me out at the Menu stage (after pressing Qualify, Race, etc.) it also turns off three settings used by the graphics card & Direct X 9.0. I was taken to Direct X 9.0 automaticly after the crash and the three settings are no disengaged. (Direct Draw, Direct 3d, & AGP support) What the hell?

So, is it the Radon 9700 pro? Or is it Direct x 9.0?

My wife has a computer with a Radon 7500, and I think... Direct x 8.1, I'm going to try her computer for this game.

Stranger things have happened.

I can't run Colin McRae's Rally 2.0 on my machine without setting up a second desktop through the Radon 9700 graphics card. Since it comes with a dual display, the game won't run without the second display running at the same time. That is also a Codemaster game. When are they going to get hip to the Radon 9700 Scene?

My hobby is playing games, not fixing bugs.

I have made a mistake...

TIR is not a Codemasters game... It's Empire Interactive...
Caught my own mistake... (was reading a problem with ProRaceDriver, which sounded similar and that's why I blamed them)

Sorry Codemasters... (hurry up and bring ProRaceDriver to Canada - I've been following the lies & release dates since May 2002)

Sorry I can't really help you but I may be able to make you rest easy ( mabey ) . If you like ' realistic ' driving simulations , then getting booted to desktop is probably the best thing about Total Imersion Racing . Its a bit of a PS2 or PS1 console (y) style game . I won't slag it off any more , its not its fault .
Have you reformatted to replace XP with 98se ? If so , you may find you'll have to replace it with XP again as a lot of older ( for older read pre XP ) games simply will not work with XP ( for me GPL one casualty ) . Its only a matter of time before no new games will work with anything other than XP . sooner or later that ' must have ' game will be XP only .
Sorry I can't really help you get it going , I know its annoying when you wanna play somthing and go to the trouble of buying it and it won't bloody work , its a conspiracy to make sure we've all got the fasted computers , latest grafix cards and whatever operating system Mr gates decides is in fashion for the next 2 years. you'd think 'windows' would properly with all the attempts they've had at re -writing it .

Hello,

Total Imersion Racing is not totally Imersive? Oh well, that's to be expected, and I already knew it anyway. I'm okay with that. I like all kinds of racing games, as long as they run on my darn machine.

I do not own Windows xp.

It never occured to me that my problem with Total Imersion Racing would be a compatibility issue with my old version of Windows 98se... I'm going to recheck the box to make sure that it (TIR) was supposed to be working with Windows 98se. I would be shocked to see that it (win98se) is not listed on the TIR box.

Maybe you are trying to say that Direct x 9.0 is not working with Windows 98se? (and would prefer XP). Or maybe it's my Radon 9700pro, which would prefer the use of an XP editon. You are probably right.

I think it's still a compatibility issue with Direct x 9.0, the TIR patch, my Radon 9700pro with it's latest drivers, and Windows 98se. Win98se, is not directly supported by the Radon 9700pro drivers (they are linked through the sub-section of Windows ME.) This is not a good combination.

I still have not tried the older computer my wife is using. Windows 98se, Direct x 8.1, Asus mobo, P3 chip, 450 mghz, 512 sdram, Radon 7500 + newest drivers, Sound blaster pro 128. Perhaps this combination will make TIR happy? (at least it will answer the windows xp question)

I will try it tonight. If I can get myself to stop playing Morrowind. I'm a 27th level Bretton Mage, and it's taken me 60+ hours to get there and things are really starting to get interesting in the story line.

Thanks

No I wasn't trying to say DX9 didn't work with 98SE , I was just trying to make you feel a bit better that TIR wouldn't work . I wouldn't know that kind of thing . you'll have a better idea when you try it on your wife's machine .
I've got a 2.0GHZ P4 , TIR was ok framerate wise , I don't know how well a 450mhz will run it , even with the good video card . Good luck with it anyway.

We are in one of those sort of crosover periods we get every now and then like the DX6 to 7 and Dos to win 95 , its a bit of a pain , there seem to be more processor and M/b and GFX card options than ever and now DX9 and XP enter the mix , I was looking in PC World last sunday and saw Microsoft's Midtown madness 2 (now on EXPLOSIVES budget label ) and it was stated to be incompatable with XP . ( may have been motocross madness actualy ) but if Microsoft don't get it right , who can ?.

Morrowind . Great game , I survived for 30 hours before my eyes began to bleed , you must have great patience , you ' only ' have about another 150hrs of gameplay left , if you rush it .

good luck with TIR
Dirk.
